Iran: Son of dissident cleric jailed

Ahmad Montazeri was summoned to the special clerical court without any official due process, and then arrested on Friday in relation to a previous revelation of a sound clip unveiling remarks made by his father.

Mr. Montazeri’s website announced the news. Criticizing the “Special Clergy Court”, the website described the trial as extrajudicial, adding  the SCC has become a tool in the hands of the officials to pursue their objectives.

The special clergy court  sentenced him on Sunday, November 27 to prison and to be defrocked, according to Montazeri’s website.

Ahmad Montazeri was sentenced to 21years behind bars and to be defrocked for posting an old recording on the website on 9 August 2016 in which his father could be heard criticizing the  summer 1988 massacre of more than 30,000 political prisoners.

He has to actually spend 6 years of this sentence in prison, according to his website.

The revelation of the audio tape with the voice of Ayatollah Montazeri harshly criticizing a number of officials, known as the “Death Commission,” created enormous turmoil inside the regime apparatus, continuing to this very day.
