Two inmates died within the past week at Ghezelhesar Prison in Karaj, west of Tehran.

Darush Mansouri, imprisoned in ward 2, was misdiagnosed by a prison doctor and later suffered a fatal heart attack. Mahmoud Noruzi, the latter, is thought to have died from methadone toxicity.

The death of the two and many others recalls the inhumane conditions to which prisoners are subjected in Iran. These conditions have been long condemned by several human rights organizations reporting ongoing inhuman mistreatment and torture of prisoners in Iran jails, leading to death in some tragic cases.
