On April 22, the health condition of a political prisoner called Omar Farhang became more critical and his blood pressure tremendously dropped in his tenth day of hunger strike in Ardebil’s prison (North Western Iran).
This political prisoner who is from Iranian Sunni religious minority, is 45 years old and has been in jail for 9 years up to now, he is very ill and has been suffering from a tumor (nodule) in his neck and throat which has been causing him great discomfort for more than three years.
Doctors have prescribed him immediate surgery but regime’s prison and judiciary officials have done nothing to treat him after three years, and as a result of malnutrition, poor food quality and poor hygiene in the prison, he is suffering from acute fungal and abdominal illnesses
This prisoner who is a native of Urmia, has been in hunger strike Since April 16th to protest the lack of medical care.
He was arrested in 2008 and has been tortured under interrogation in Urmia prison for three months, he was then sentenced to ten years imprisonment and exiled to Ardebil’s prison which is far away from his family who are residing in Urmia. He and his family many times had asked judiciary officials to send him to hospital for surgery and treatment of his illnesses, however, they haven’t obtained any response. Lack of treatment of his illnesses and not paying attention to his requests have endangered his health and caused him physical deterioration.
