Iran: New wave of clamping down on private parties

45 men and women were arrested at the suburbs of Qom Province, south of the Capital. The gathering was held in a furniture manufacturing workshop and one reason for the arrests was because it was a mixed-gender party. 14 of the arrestees were held in prison and the others released on bail.
Up to 25 people have been detained during a party held in a pizza shop in Ahwaz, southwest of Iran. by security forces. The shop was subsequently sealed. 36 youths on April 29, were arrested in the city of Abadan also southwest of the country.
Such these parties are deemed as social anomalies and corruption in Iran and the morality police regularly raid on peaceful ceremonies, cracking down on activities deemed un-Islamic.
Human rights activists see these measures as an infringement on people’s private lives.
