The Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Factory Syndicate said in an announcement that 15 of its workers were arrested by security forces, and demanded their immediate release.
According to this announcement, after worker protests, security forces attacked the workers’ homes during the night and arrested them. Some of the detainees have been identified as Ahmad Kasir, Behzad Nazari, Seyed Hadi Tafah, Abdolreza Sorkheh, and Hamid Abdollahzadeh.
The families of those arrested, referred to Ministry of Intelligence Department, demanding the laborer’s release. Intelligence agents however called the arrested workers “rebels” who must be punished.
The families also made efforts to locate them but officials refused to disclose their whereabouts.
Some 500 workers of the Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Factory have staged a sit-in protest in front of the factory demanding release of the 15 detained workers. They have announced that they are going continue their sit-in and do not work until their demands are met.
On July 25, workers of the Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Factory launched a strike protest after not receiving their paychecks for six months. The State Security Forces attacked the workers, firing tear gas to scatter protesters.
