Following the brutal transfer of political prisoners Atena Daemi and Golrokh Iraie to Gharchak Prison in Varamin, Atena’s parents wrote a letter to the UN Special Rapporteur on Iran, Asma Jahangir.
The letter reads in part:
“Ms. Asma Jahangir, we ask you not only because of your heavy responsibility in reporting on human rights, but as a woman and a mother, and because of humanity, to be our voice, (the voice of) Hossein Daemi and Masoumeh Nemati, a mother and father who started the day with news of the severe beating of their detained daughter.
Our daughter’s life is in danger. On January 25, Atena Daemi and her cellmate Golrokh Ibrahimi Iraie were transferred to the quarantine section of Gharchak Prison in Varamin after being severely beaten. This was done without the knowledge of their lawyer and without the observance of any legal or human standards. They were not even allowed to take their personal belongings with them…
We are worried about our daughter’s life and request that you work for Atena’s freedom. She does not deserve to be in prison. Please help our daughter be released from prison.
