Political prisoner Sina Zahiri to be flogged with 74 lashes

The Kachouii Court handed down a sentence of 74 lashes for political prisoner Sina Zahiri based on a case filed against him while in detention. The ruling was issued on Monday, October 3, 2022.

The Kachouii Court opened a bogus case against him because he did not return to prison on time after finishing his medical leave. He is now sentenced to 74 lashes on arrival.

The Kachouii Court is located in the Darakeh Evin district in Tehran’s suburb.

A reliable source said political prisoner Sina Zahiri was supposed to consult a doctor outside prison. The prison authorities, however, granted his medical leave two days past the date of his consultation.

This source adds, “Since the actual date of the interview had passed, Sina Zahiri delayed his return by seven days to try and book another date. In the end, without any success, he had to return to prison without conducting the interview.”

The prison officials are now using this matter to sentence him to 74 lashes, which is inhuman. The fact is that the officials had caused the initial delay.

Sina Zahiri, born in 1982, was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve a 5-year sentence on November 14, 2020. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison in March 2018 on the charge of association with the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK/PMOI).

Sina Zahiri had been arrested and interrogated in Ward 209 of Evin Prison in 2009 while spending five months in solitary confinement. Sina Zahiri was then transfered to Gohardasht Prison. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison and released from Gohardasht Prison in June 2012.
