On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, prisoners participated in the 52nd round of this campaign, expressing their opposition to executions.
In this week’s statement, prisoners emphasized the expansion of the campaign and highlighted the courageous support of 11 teachers’ unions in various provinces, as well as their protests against executions. The statement also referred to the positions taken by Kurdish clerics (Mamostas) against this punishment.
The statement further addressed the killing of two judges accused of human rights violations, Mohammad Moghiseh and Ali Razini, who were notorious for issuing thousands of execution sentences. This act was widely welcomed by the public and the families of victims, once again demonstrating that opposition to executions has become a primary demand of many people in Iran. The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign symbolizes this public demand to end the death penalty.

Full statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in its 52nd week:
As we approach the anniversary of the campaign, the men’s ward of Adelabad Prison in Shiraz joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign during its 52nd week
Amid ongoing executions and systematic repression inflicted daily upon Iranian citizens, the oppressive rulers executed over 110 prisoners in the Iranian month of Dey (21 December 2024-19 January 2025) alone. Since the beginning of the Persian year 1403 (March 2024), 950 imprisoned citizens have been hanged. These statistics reveal an unprecedented increase in the use of executions as a tool to suppress society.
In the latest news, a political prisoner named Malek Davarshenas (Mousavi), 26 years old, from the city of Karkheh, has been sentenced to death on charges of rebellion (“Baghi”). Detained since 2021, he was forced to confess under psychological and physical torture and now faces the imminent danger of execution.
In response to these inhumane sentences, society and prisoners have resisted the regime’s violence. The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has now spread to 34 prisons and enjoys broad support both inside and outside Iran.
Among these supporters, 11 teachers’ unions in various provinces, despite security pressures, have bravely backed the campaign and frequently chanted slogans against executions during their weekly gatherings. Additionally, Kurdish Mamostas in various cities across Kurdistan have publicly opposed the death penalty.
On January 18, 2025, two infamous judges, Mohammad Moghiseh and Ali Razini, who had a four-decade history of human rights violations and issued thousands of execution sentences for both political and non-political prisoners, were held accountable for their crimes by an outraged citizen. This act was met with joy and approval from the public, particularly the families of victims of thousands of political executions. It reflects 45 years of executions and massacres of prisoners and illustrates the Iranian people’s disgust for the death penalty. It also shows that the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and all actions opposing executions resonate with the majority of Iranians, who demand the abolition of this medieval punishment.
According to the latest reports, the men’s ward of Adelabad Prison in Shiraz has joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. Last week, the women’s ward of the same prison announced their support for the campaign.
The campaign strongly condemns all death sentences, regardless of the charges or beliefs of the prisoners, and reiterates that the death penalty is inhumane and must be abolished. The authoritarian Iranian government uses its self-made “religious and legal justifications” to wield executions as a tool to suppress society. It is essential for everyone to oppose the death penalty as an inhumane punishment to create a foundation for reducing crime and violence in society since the regime itself is the root cause of many crimes.
As members of the campaign, we express our gratitude for the public support it has received and endorse the general strike against executions planned for Wednesday in Kurdish cities. We also urge all people to support this strike. Once again, we call on all prisoners in various prisons to join the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign so that we can collectively and unitedly defend the right to life for those sentenced to death.
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in its 52nd week, will hold a hunger strike in the following 34 prisons:
