54th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 35 Prisons Across Iran

February 4, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, prisoners participating in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in prisons across Iran continue their campaign and go on hunger strike. This comes as Gonbad-e Kavus Prison joined the campaign last week, bringing the total number of participating prisons to 35.

In a section of its statement issued today, the campaign wrote: “It is clear that the regime’s goal with these arbitrary and systematic sentences and accusations is to instill fear in society and prevent street protests and uprisings.”

Full statement of the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ campaign:

Gonbad-e Kavus Prison Joins the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ Campaign in the 54th Week

Dear compatriots,

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has expanded as Gonbad-e Kavus Prison joins the movement. On Tuesday, February 4, prisoners in 35 prisons across the country will go on hunger strike for the 54th consecutive Tuesday.

Additionally, several political prisoners from Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, where some inmates had previously joined the campaign, expressed solidarity with this collective action against executions and officially joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign last week.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of Bahman (January 20), more than 30 prisoners have been executed, including a female prisoner in Khorramabad Prison. Furthermore, in another inhumane act, Manouchehr Fallah, a political prisoner and a member of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign detained in Lakan Prison in Rasht, has been sentenced to death on charges of “enmity against God” (Moharebeh) in an extremely unfair and opaque judicial process, without the presence of a lawyer, by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht.

It is clear that the government’s goal with these arbitrary and systematic sentences and accusations is to instill fear in society and prevent street protests and uprisings. Let us not forget that Khamenei had previously acknowledged that judges should pay no attention to international human rights principles when issuing their rulings.

On the other hand, the solidarity and unity of the people in resisting the inhumane death sentences in recent weeks have been remarkable. The domestic and international campaign against the execution of political prisoners has gained significant momentum, reflecting widespread opposition to an authoritarian regime that relies on executions to sustain itself.

The “No to Execution” campaign across Iran and the Tuesday hunger strikes by prisoners are turning into a nationwide movement, expanding every week. May this campaign contribute, even in a small way, to the freedom-seeking struggles of the courageous youth and people for the liberation of our captive homeland and the eradication of corruption and discrimination.

The campaign members appreciate all forms of support on the anniversary of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign—whether in social media, traditional media, or through demonstrations held domestically and abroad by various groups. They hope that this support, which upholds the right to life and fundamental human rights, will continue.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in the 54th week of the campaign, prisoners in the following 35 prisons will be on hunger strike:

Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 and 8), Qezelhessar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Asadabad Isfahan Prison, Dastgerd Isfahan Prison, Sheiban Ahvaz Prison, Sepidar Ahvaz Prison, Shiraz Nezam Prison, Adelabad Shiraz Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Bam Prison, Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Jovein Prison, Mashhad Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Roodsar Prison, Haviq Talesh Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Kamyaran Prison, and Gonbad-e Kavus Prison.
