The 55th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 35 Prisons Nationwide

The Death Sentence of Political Prisoner Pejman Soltani and the Campaign’s Warning Regarding the Imminent Execution of Pakhshan Azizi

At a time when the clerical regime is more isolated than ever, both domestically and internationally, it has resorted to intensified repression and executions to ensure its survival. Since February 11, 2024, alone, 1,021 individuals have been executed by hanging.

Among them is Pejman Soltani, a Kurdish political prisoner who was arrested during the 2022 protests. Following an unfair trial, he was sentenced to death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia on charges of killing a Basij member. In another inhumane act, the retrial request of Pakhshan Azizi, a political prisoner whose death sentence was recently upheld by the Supreme Court, has been rejected, placing her at imminent risk of execution.

In response, Amnesty International and the United Nations Special Rapporteur, Ms. Mai Sato, have condemned this inhumane ruling.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign warns that if Ms. Pakhshan Azizi is removed from the general ward for execution, new measures and strategies will be adopted to counter this inhumane act, and every effort will be made to prevent this crime.

We call on all people and human rights activists to oppose this execution by any means possible. This time, we must not mourn another lost life—we must resist before the crime is committed. This is a serious test for all of us.

Meanwhile, several political prisoners in the women’s ward and Ward 8 of Evin Prison have been denied visitation rights after protesting and chanting slogans against the execution and forced transfer of two political prisoners, Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani.

No to Execution: Standing Against the Regime’s Killing Machine

We, the members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign, united in 35 prisons across the country, strongly condemn all death sentences in Iran and stand firm in resistance, raising our voices in unison: “No to Execution.”

We also warn all international organizations, human rights institutions, and conscientious individuals worldwide that in Iran, the machinery of execution is not used for justice but as a tool of repression and regime survival.

Every execution is a price forcibly imposed on the Iranian people to help the government conceal its crimes. Therefore, once again, we call on all domestic and international civil organizations to take serious action to stop these atrocities.
