On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, prisoners involved in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign are on a hunger strike in 36 prisons in different cities across Iran.

A group of prisoners from Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah have joined the campaign today, bringing the total number of participating prisons to 36.

In part of its statement issued today, the campaign wrote: “The members of the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ Campaign express their condolences to the family, students, and people of Iran on the martyrdom of Amir Mohammad Khaleqi, a student of Tehran University, who was cruelly and suspiciously killed. They hold the government responsible for his death, support the legitimate protests of the students at this university, and consider the solidarity of other universities with these students as essential.”

The full statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign is as follows:

The joining of Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah to the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in its 56th week;
We consider it our duty to defend the “right to life,” from death row prisoners to children suffering from cancer.

As the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign enters its 56th week, a group of prisoners from Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah, as the 36th prison to join the campaign, announced in a letter that starting from February 18, 2025, they would be participating in the hunger strike against the medieval death sentence.

The members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign express their condolences on the martyrdom of Amir Mohammad Khaleqi, a Tehran University student who was cruelly and suspiciously murdered. They hold the government accountable and support the legitimate protests of the students at this university, and consider the solidarity of other universities with these students as essential.

The execution machine of the oppressive government, which continues to work without pause, executed at least 55 people since 20 January 2025, two of whom were women.

In the same week, the death sentence of political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi, which had previously been overturned by the Supreme Court, was once again upheld by a court in Rasht. In protest of this ruling, prisoners convicted of ordinary crimes at Lakan Prison also announced they would join the hunger strike in solidarity with the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign this week.

On the other hand, we are witnessing bloody repression of popular protests in the city of Dehdasht, with widespread arrests and the use of firearms to take lives and kill protesting people there.

The tragedy of the oppressive government is not limited to the repression, imprisonment, executions, and the killing of unarmed protesting people in the streets. It also includes the killing and “deprivation of life” of children suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses, whose families, due to poverty and lack of financial means, are forced to abandon treatment for their loved ones, watching their slow death in despair.

Therefore, the campaign, while condemning these crimes and inhumane actions, considers it its duty to defend the right to life for those on death row, as well as children suffering from special illnesses.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign will continue its hunger strike on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, for the 56th consecutive week in the following 36 prisons:

Evin Prison (Women’s Section, Sections 4 and 8), Gohardasht Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Grand Tehran Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Arak Prison, Khoramabad Prison, Asadabad Isfahan Prison, Dastgerd Isfahan Prison, Shiban Ahvaz Prison, Sepidar Ahvaz Prison, Shiraz Nezam Prison, Adelabad Shiraz Prison (Women’s and Men’s Sections), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Bam Prison, Kahnouj Prison, Tabas Prison, Joweyn Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (Men’s and Women’s Sections), Roudsar Prison, Havigh Talesh Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Saqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Kamyaran Prison, and Dizelabad Kermanshah Prison.
