59th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 38 Prisons Across Iran

March 11, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in the 59th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, prisoners in 38 prisons across Iran will go on a hunger strike. This comes as, over the past week, coinciding with International Women’s Day, a group of female prisoners from the women’s ward of Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz issued a statement protesting the widespread executions in Iran, announcing their participation in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and calling for the abolition of the death penalty.

The statement issued today to mark the 59th week of this campaign reads as follows:

The Women’s Ward of Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz Joins the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign on International Women’s Day in the 59th Week of the Campaign Across 38 Prisons in the Country

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign congratulates all women around the world, especially the resilient and brave women of this land, who have faced severe discrimination for centuries. Over the past 46 years, despite the rule of a misogynistic religious fascist regime, they have risen up for their most basic human rights. The campaign also honors the memory of the thousands of women who have lost their lives in the struggle for freedom.

Sepidar Prison

The oppressive regime in Iran continues its killing machine without pause. Since the beginning of Esfand alone (i.e. since February 19), nearly 100 people have been executed, including 28 individuals in a single day on March 1.

This week, coinciding with International Women’s Day, a group of female prisoners from the women’s ward of Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz issued a statement protesting the widespread executions in Iran, declaring their participation in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, and demanding an end to the death penalty.

The Campaign, while expressing gratitude to all prisoners who have joined this movement against executions, continues to call on all prisoners, as well as all conscientious individuals, political activists, human rights defenders, civil society members, and labor rights advocates to stand against executions in Iran and be the voice of every death row prisoner.

We must all remember that thousands of prisoners convicted of general crimes, as well as dozens of political and ideological prisoners, are on death row. Every moment in prison is overshadowed by the thought of the gallows for them and their fellow inmates. Their right to life is constantly threatened by the suppressive apparatus of the religious dictatorship. Therefore, it is crucial that amid the noise of various news, the issue of death row prisoners is kept at the forefront, and we take a firm stance against it.

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in the 59th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, prisoners in the following 38 prisons will go on a hunger strike:

Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 and 8), Qezelhessar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Chubindar Qazvin Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Esfahan Asadabad Prison, Dastgerd Esfahan Prison, Sheiban Ahvaz Prison, Sepidar Ahvaz Prison (Women’s and Men’s Wards), Shiraz Nezam Prison, Adelabad Shiraz Prison (Women’s and Men’s Wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Bam Prison, Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Jovein Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gonbad-e-Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Rudsar Prison, Haviq Talesh Prison, Dieselabad Kermanshah Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, and Kamyaran Prison.
