62nd Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 38 Prisons Across Iran

April 1, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, prisoners participating in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in 38 prisons across Iran will continue their 62nd week of protest and will go on a hunger strike.

In a statement issued on this occasion, the campaign wrote:

“The ruling clerical regime has not ceased its inhumane practice of executions even during Nowruz and the holy month of Ramadan. In recent days, several prisoners have fallen victim to the insatiable appetite of Iran’s rulers for executions and repression… The ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ campaign strongly condemns the brutal executions and inhumane death sentences, regardless of the charges, and calls for the abolition of the death penalty in Iran.”

We urge all freedom-loving individuals and families of prisoners sentenced to death to hold protests in public spaces, outside prisons, or any other appropriate locations, demanding the abolition of the inhumane death penalty.

Statement of the 62nd Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign:

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in its 62nd week, with the participation of 38 different prisons;

The Supreme Court’s confirmation of the death sentence for political prisoner Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heidaranlou.

The ruling clerical regime has not ceased its inhumane practice of executions even during Nowruz and the holy month of Ramadan. In recent days, several prisoners have fallen victim to the insatiable appetite of Iran’s rulers for executions and repression. Meanwhile, the death sentence of political prisoner Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heidaranlou, a resident of Chaldoran accused of “rebellion” (Baghi), has been upheld by the Supreme Court and was officially communicated to him on March 24, 2025. As a result, the risk of his execution is imminent, and it is imperative to raise awareness about his case and those of other death row inmates.

We warn against the likelihood of executions resuming after the holidays, particularly for individuals whose unjust sentences have been confirmed. The case of Varishe Moradi is currently before the Supreme Court. We demand the immediate annulment of Varishe Moradi’s death sentence, as this ruling is not a judicial decision but a premeditated act of state-sanctioned murder. We express our deep concern over the confirmation of her sentence and those of other prisoners, and we will continue to resist these injustices.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign strongly condemns the barbaric executions and inhumane death sentences, regardless of any alleged charges, and calls for the abolition of capital punishment in Iran.

As witnessed in past weeks, gatherings of families of death row inmates have taken place in front of Lakan Prison in Rasht, Evin Prison, Saqqez Prison, and in the city of Songhor. In solidarity with these families, we urge all freedom-loving individuals and families of prisoners sentenced to death to hold protests in public spaces, outside prisons, or any other appropriate locations, demanding the abolition of the inhumane death penalty.

This is the most natural, legitimate, and rational right of families, free individuals, and all citizens to stand against the unjust death sentences and voice their protest.

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign will be on a hunger strike in the following 38 prisons:

Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 and 8), Qezel-Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Khourin Varamin Prison, Choobindar Qazvin Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Asadabad Isfahan Prison, Dastgerd Isfahan Prison, Sheyban Ahvaz Prison, Sepidar Ahvaz Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Shiraz Nezam Prison, Adelabad Shiraz Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Bam Prison, Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Jovein Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Roodsar Prison, Haviq Talesh Prison, Dieselabad Kermanshah Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, and Kamyaran Prison.
