The 66th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 41 Prisons Across Iran

April 29, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the 66th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign will be held in 41 prisons across the country. In this week’s statement, the prisoners, while expressing sympathy with the victims of the Bandar Abbas explosion, identified the government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as the primary culprits behind this tragedy.

The statement partly reads: We hope that ‘No to Execution’ becomes a shared public demand and, as before, that the chant of ‘No to Execution’ echoes throughout all gatherings.”

The full text of the 66th campaign statement is as follows:

Statement of the 66th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign

Striking prisoners participating in the 66th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign wrote the following in part of their statement, referring to the explosion at the Bandar Abbas pier:

“The 66th week of the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ campaign coincides with the heartbreaking news of the deaths of dozens and the injury of over a thousand people in the horrific explosion in Bandar Abbas. We extend our condolences to the families of all the deceased. It is clear to the people of Iran that the main perpetrators of this disaster—whose full human and financial toll remains unclear—are the oppressive rulers and the terrorist IRGC, who are continuously engaged in the production of missile and nuclear weaponry and in warmongering.”

“On the eve of International Workers’ Day and National Teachers’ Day, the members of the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ campaign extend their greetings and congratulations to all the people of Iran, especially the workers, laborers, and both active and retired teachers. Despite decades of systemic suppression and discrimination, the working class, educators, and all the hard-working people have continued to struggle for their rights—many facing imprisonment and even execution.”

“We also take this opportunity to express our appreciation to all workers, teachers, retirees, artists, writers, and poets who, in recent days, have stood against executions in various ways. We hope that ‘No to Execution’ becomes a shared public demand and, as before, that the chant of ‘No to Execution’ echoes throughout all gatherings.”

“The wave of executions in recent weeks, particularly of political prisoners, has caused grave concern for the lives of those sentenced to death. So far, in the month of Ordibehesht (April–May), 35 individuals have been executed, including one woman and two political prisoners of conscience: Rostam Zeyn al-Din from Zahedan and Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydaranlou. They were barbarically hanged, and Mr. Heydaranlou’s body was not even returned to his family. Such actions are inhumane, gross violations of human rights, and a clear sign of the regime’s fear of a popular uprising.”

“Last Wednesday, for the second time, the Supreme Court of the regime rejected the retrial request of two political prisoners sentenced to death, Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani. As such, their executions could be carried out at any moment.”

“Furthermore, according to published reports, a prisoner named Mohsen Langarneshin, who was sentenced to death on charges of espionage, has now been transferred to solitary confinement, raising fears that his execution is imminent.”

“Thousands of prisoners with various charges currently face execution, and there is a constant threat that these sentences could be carried out at any time. In protest against these medieval-style sentences, a group of prisoners in Sanandaj prison announced in a letter that starting Tuesday, April 29, they are joining the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ campaign and, alongside other prisons across the country, will go on hunger strike to make their protest heard worldwide.”
