On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the 69th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign will be held in 44 prisons across Iran, with the prisons of Mahabad, Bukan, and Yasuj joining this protest movement.
This week’s statement, referencing the execution of at least 129 individuals since April 21—including two juvenile offenders—states:
“This regime… without the slightest regard for public opinion or international human rights organizations, deprived them of the ‘right to life.’”
Striking prisoners, alongside grieving families and public supporters, emphasize the importance of expanding this protest movement and resisting the inhumane punishment of execution.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign Expands to 44 Prisons in Its Sixty-Ninth Week, with Mahabad, Bukan, and Yasuj Joining
At a time when the country is facing systemic corruption and the inefficiency of an authoritarian regime—conditions that have disrupted citizens’ lives and deprived them of basic necessities such as water and electricity—the issuance and implementation of inhumane death sentences, driven by a clear will of the ruling power, have not only continued but increased.
This regime persistently avoids releasing accurate statistics regarding the number of prisoners and executions. However, according to reports received by the campaign, more than 129 individuals—including four women—have been executed since the beginning of Ordibehesht (April 21). Just in the past week, the death sentences of 25 prisoners were carried out, including two juvenile offenders who were hanged in the prisons of Malayer and Adelabad in Shiraz. These executions were conducted without any concern for public opinion or international human rights institutions, depriving the victims of their right to life.
In response to this violence and the systematic violation of the right to life, there has been a growing wave of protests from the families of death row inmates, as well as broad support from young people across various cities for this campaign. This solidarity has taken on increasingly diverse and expansive forms through grassroots initiatives.
We, the members of the campaign, salute all supporters of “No to Execution Tuesdays” and call on everyone—especially the youth—to raise their voices in every neighborhood and street against this inhumane punishment and to support this movement by any means possible. We invite all opponents of the death penalty to stand in solidarity with grieving families and not leave them alone in protest gatherings.
Last week, through the initiatives of determined compatriots both inside and outside the country, widespread solidarity was formed with the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all individuals, institutions, political parties, and civil and human rights organizations who participated in this grassroots movement.
Additionally, a group of prisoners in the Mahabad, Bukan, and Yasuj prisons have announced that, starting this week, they will join the campaign and go on hunger strike every Tuesday. With the addition of these three prisons, the number of prisons participating in the campaign has increased to forty-four.
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, prisoners in the following 44 prisons will go on hunger strike for the sixty-ninth consecutive week:
