More than fifty days have passed since the arrest of Shahin Zoghi-Tabar, a political prisoner held in Ward 7 of Evin Prison. He was arrested by security forces on July 24, 2025, and has since been kept in a state of legal uncertainty without a final ruling. This situation constitutes a clear violation of human rights and amounts to psychological torture.
Zoghi-Tabar was arrested suddenly and violently by agents of the IRGC Intelligence Organization and was initially transferred to Fashafouyeh Prison. The unsanitary environment of this prison caused kidney problems and swelling in his legs. After a group transfer of political prisoners, he was moved to Ward 7 of Evin Prison, but his health problems persist and he is in urgent need of medical care.
Trial Without a Final Verdict
On August 17, 2025, he was tried at Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, on charges such as “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), spreading false information, propaganda against the regime, and insulting the Supreme Leader.” Despite holding a trial session, no ruling has been issued so far. This legal uncertainty has placed additional pressure on him and his family.
Harsh Conditions in Ward 7 of Evin
Prisoners in Ward 7 of Evin face serious hardships: poor-quality food, lack of sufficient hygiene facilities, frequent power outages, and high prices for essential items in the prison shop. These conditions have intensified the physical and psychological pressure on inmates, including Zoghi-Tabar.
The violent manner of his arrest and the history of similar cases have raised serious concerns about the possibility of torture or inhumane treatment. Denial of access to an independent lawyer and restrictions on contact with his family further increase the risk of additional violations of his rights.
