Iran: New plot against a political prisoner

Political prisoner Ali Moezzi, transferred in a suspicious move to an unknown location from Rajai Shahr Prison, west of Tehran, is currently detained in ward 209 of Tehran’s Evin Prison.

Moezzi is a supporter of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI)and has been held in ward 209 under interrogation since January 4th. He is considered the  target of  newly fabricated charges.

He had been exiled to Karaj Rajai Shahr Prison after protesting political prisoners’ harsh conditions. He was then transferred without prior notice, to Evin’s Intelligence Ministry detention center after going to his weekly family visit on January 4th.

Moezzi also endured time behind bars as a political prisoner back in the 1980s. He was last arrested in 2011 and sentenced to an extra year behind bars in December 2015 despite the fact that his term had been finalized.

Moezzi was sentenced to four years behind bars for supporting the PMOI and was set to be released in April 2015 before authorities launched a new fabricated case against him. As a result he was sentenced to a year in prison in absentia by branch 15 of the revolutionary court.
