Iran: Inmates receive poor medical care

About 7,000 inmates are held in Tabriz Central Prison, northwest of Iran, while prison facilities are designed to house only 1,000.

Furthermore, infirmary and dentistry conditions are quite simply deplorable in this facility.

A dentist used to examine patients only once a day and for half an hour. However, these visits have been discontinued and the prisoners get to see the doctor every six months.

The denial of medical care and other forms of torture and ill-treatment exposes prisoners to serious injuries and even death.

When an inmate is infected the illness is also transmitted to others due to lack of proper care.
