Prisoner continues facing uncertainty and enjoying legal representation

Graduate student of political science Payam Shakiba who has been in custody since February 22nd is being denied legal representation and any visit.  His current status remains in limbo.

Judiciary officials have told him that he does not need a lawyer.

Shakiba was placed under interrogation by intelligence agents for around 50 days in solitary confinement in ward 209 of Tehran’s Evin Prison.

Intelligence agents arrested him without any prior warrant, and confiscated his personal belongings. In a brief telephone conversation with his family, Shakiba said he was being kept at ward 209 of Evin Prison; however he didn’t talk about his charges and the reason of his arrest remain untold.

This former student activist suffers from some kind of migraine headaches and needs to take certain medicines regularly. Yet, his family have not been able to get through the prison bureaucracy and provide him with his necessary needed medications, according to a reliable source.
