Iran: Death row inmates staged dry hunger strike protesting dire prison conditions
Three death row inmates in ward 10 of Gohardasht prison, west of Tehran have staged a dry hunger strike protesting the unsanitary conditions and pressures imposing by prison authorities.
The three Hossein Hosseini33, Hassan Yahyaei 33 and Ali Jahangiri 35, have been subjected to additional punitive measures and transferred to solitary confinement since March 22nd.
It is worth noting that prison guards raided on March 22nd after a fight took place between inmates, leaving a number of detainees injured and killing one.
Prisoners have been denied medical treatment even suturing ever since then. They have been currently held in solitary confinement, unsanitary cells. Bathing is now denied to the inmates and they haven’t changed their clothes for one month.
A prisoner by the name of Rashed Baluch, tried suicide due to dire prison conditions, and fortunately he survived the hanging. He was transferred to the prison clinic.
