A young inmate in unit 2 of Ghezelhesar Prison committed suicide on Monday and died after authorities delayed transferring him to hospital.
“The suspected drug offender Rahbar Ganjkhani, nearly 35, was arrested four months ago and his trial session had not been held yet.
Ganjkhani had claimed innocence during his custody. He owned the industrial shed where narcotics had been found, but had rented if to someone else. The tenant had run away and Ganjkhani was arrested in his stead. He had recently been refusing to eat food or talk to anyone,” according to a source close to the inmate.
“There were clear warning signs about his suicide on Monday, he was hallucinating and repeatedly told God I am coming to you. Prison authorities however, didn’t care about his situation,” the source added.
