Iran: Women unemployment rate twice as much as men
The Deputy of the Minister of Internal Affairs in charge of Women and Family Affairs said that the unemployment rate of women had increased by 10 percent in the past year.
“The rate of unemployment in women with higher education is twice as much as men”, Fahimeh Farahmandpour said.
“(Employed women) are unfortunately in the lower levels in terms of making decisions. For example, in the province of Gilan where 60 percent of women are directly involved in the agricultural sector, less than 15 percent of them are active in making money transactions”.
“Nine point twenty six percent of women are the guardians of their families which is twice as much as men. But the significant point is that more than 80 percent of these women are 50 years or older”, she added.
Farahmandpour also said that 45 percent of women did not earn a salary. (ISNA state-run News Agency – Aug. 1, 2017)
