In solidarity with the hunger striking political prisoners in Rajaii Shahr Prison, a number of political prisoners in Ardebil announced that they went on hunger strike since August 24, 2017.
In a letter addressing the Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran, Ms. AsmaJahangir and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, demanding to tend the matter and announced that they will go on a week-long hunger strike since August 24, 2017.
Their letter reads in part, “While expressing sympathy and solidarity with the hunger striking political prisoners in Rajaii Shahr Prison of Karaj, we demand you to address their condition in Hall 10. Our brothers have been on hunger strike since July 30, to protest being forcefully transferred to hall 10, the officials’ failing to return them to the previous ward, and being insulted and beaten up by prison guard.
We, the political prisoners in exile in Ardebil Prison, are going to a week-long hunger strike since August 24, to support and sympathize with our oppressed brothers. We ask you and other international organizations to address the hunger striking political prisoners’ demands and call for visits Iran’s prisons and visits political prisoners. Twenty-five days have passed since the day when the political prisoners in Rajaii Shahr Prison launched a hunger strike and they have been currently in critical health condition. Elderly prisoners are amongst them who are suffering from heart, diabetes and other illnesses. The diseases that they have contracted during the years of captivity. Our demand and all Iranian people’s demand is to address their condition and to return them to their previous place.
The demand of all Iranians is to release political prisoners and stop executions in Iran.
