Two prisoners were executed on Wednesday, August 29, in Rajaei Shahr Prison of Karaj, west of Tehran. The victims, Mojtaba Asadi and an Afghan man, Vahidollah Loghmani were found guilty of murder and were transferred to solitary confinement on Monday.
A source said that the Afghan man, Vahidollah Loghmani, 54, had been imprisoned since 22 years ago and he was on hunger strike with his lips sewn when he was transferred to solitary confinement.
Another prisoner, Shams Ali Abdollahi was due to be hanged on the same day but his execution was stayed at the last minute.
In another development on Sunday, August 26, at least three prisoners were executed at the Rajai Shahr Prison on murder charges. One of the executed prisoners was identified as Abbas Aqaiy. He was transferred to the solitary confinement from ward 1. Two other prisoners have possibly been transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison from other prisons to be executed.
These executions have not been announced by the state-run media so far.
Another prisoner was hanged on the same day in Ardebil Prison. He was identified as Shahram. He was also found guilty of murder.
