Fereshteh Arghavani, 52, was arrested and sentenced to a year behind bars for making a telephone call to her brother.
Arghavani’s brother, Ali Dustkam, is a supporter of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and has been living abroad for 35 years.
Ms. Arghavani is a grandmother and suffers from a variety diseases. She is currently held in a prison in a village near the city of Sari, northern Iran, where ordinary prisoners are jailed.
Mr. Dustkam has issued a statement protesting his sister’s arrest.
