After eight years of imprisonment and while his crime had not been proven in court, a Baluchi prisoner was executed in the Central Prison of Zahedan.
On Sunday, December 20, 2020, a Baluchi prisoner by the name of Abdol-Basset Khesht was hanged in the Central Prison of Zahedan, capital of the southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan Province. Abdol-Basset, son of Pir-Mohammad, came from the village of Banest in Konarak County.
The Baluchi prisoner was executed abruptly and without informing his family. Prison authorities did not even grant him a last visit with his family.
The case of this prisoner was not transparent and his trials were not public.
Abdol-Basset Khesht was arrested and detained eight years ago in 2012 for allegedly for murdering a military man. He had repeatedly rejected this accusation. But intelligence agents arrested and detained him in the Central Prison of Zahedan.
The murdered officer was killed in Dorahi Kahir in Konarak. State forces were looking for the assailant. Abdol-Basset who was present in the scene at the time, started running and his national identity card falls on the ground. After some time, state forces arrested him.
An informed source said: “The Coroner’s Office called the family of Abdol-Basset Khesht in the morning of December 20, and informed them that he had been executed and they should go and receive his body.”
His family later transferred his body from Zahedan to Konarak.
At least, 12 prisoners were executed last week in Iran.
At least 245 prisoners were executed in Iran since March. Many executions are carried out secretly and the actual number of executions is higher.
Iran holds the world record for per capita executions. At least 308 prisoners have been executed from September 2019 until October 2020. The executed include 8 political prisoners and 16 women.
