Iran: Judge involved in 4,500 death sentences says execution not the answer

Aziz Mohammadi, a famous judge who has issued more than 4,500 death sentences in Iran, recently admitted executions are not the answer, according to the state-run Rokna news agency.

To this day the death penalty has failed to reduce crimes in the country, as society shapes criminal behavior and is the root cause of crime, he said.

After issuing more than 4,500 death setences, Mohammadi believes capital punishment does not have any true deterrent value.
