Recent reliable reports from Iranian prisons indicate that the regime demands money before handing over the bodies of executed prisoners to their families.
This practice has been reported in Qezel Hesar Prison, among others, where officials receive 3.8 million toumans from families of ordinary prisoners executed in this prison. The money is then divided among the judge overseeing the execution, the Prosecutor’s representative and the staff who carried out the sentence.
Other prisons have reportedly received up to 7 million toumans for the same purpose. Adding to the torment of families, the extortions are shamelessly justified as payment for the hanging rope or for sweets distributed in celebration of the executions.
