Iran: 11 prisoners executed in one day

At least 11 prisoners were transferred to solitary cells for execution in Rajaie Shahr Prison on July 10. Most of them were charged with murder. On July 12 the death sentence for seven of them was carried out in the prison courtyard. The prisoners were identified as Mehrdad Sabeie Afshar, Mohammad Shirzad, Hamid Islami, Mehdi Ahmadi, Nader Kamani, Vali Khazaie and Mohammad Hamehvand.
These executions have not been made public by the state media to date.
Also on July 12, two prisoners were hanged in the Central Hamedan Prison. They were convicted of drug related crimes and were transferred to solitary cells on July 9. One of them has been identified as Samad Abdali.
On the same day, one prisoner was hanged in the Central Urmia Prison. Convicted of murder Barzou Sheikhi was a professor at the University of Urmia. He was hanged while still mentally insane.
In another development, another prisoner identified as Mohammad Shahnavazi was hanged on unspecific charges in Zahedan Prison. He had been transferred to solitary confinement along with two other inmates identified as Sharif Rigi and Saeid Hout. There is no information available on the fate of the other two.
