Ahmad Reza Jalali, a professor, physician and researcher specializing in medicine for disaster relief, was sentenced to death for the charge of enmity with God. He wrote a letter from prison which was published on October 21 after his sentence was announced.
His letter reads in part:
The interrogation team of the Ministry of Intelligence did not care about what I said. They threw me in solitary cell which measured 3 by 5 meters in Section 209. They constantly physically and mentally tortured me, threatened and humiliated me, lied to me and did not give me access to a lawyer for seven months. This led to me making false confessions and them making a file out of all the lies, and untrue allegations.
