A young man who was accused of murder following family disputes was taken to the gallows three times. He has been identified as 26-year-old Nader. Nader, who was tried by the 71st Branch of the Tehran Penal Court, was sentenced to retribution upon a request by the victim’s family, according to a report on December 18 by the state-run Rokna news agency.
Thousands of prisoners are currently on death row in Iran, some have had their executions scheduled then postponed or stayed at the last minute on multiple occasions.
In another development, Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of a young man who was 15 at the time of committing the crime, according to the same state media. Mohammad Kalhor, has been found guilty of murder.
Despite worldwide criticism of Iran’s human rights violations Iran continues to execute juvenile offenders. In January 2016, the Committee on the Rights of the Child urged Iran to end the execution of children and persons who committed a crime while under the age of 18. However, at least four juvenile offenders were executed in 2017 and, to date at least 90 juveniles are on death row.
