The Department of Intelligence of Sanandaj, capital of the Iranian Kurdistan province, summoned Ramin Hossein Panahi’s mother on February 2, 2018. She was pressured to ask her sons to break their hunger strike.
Responded to the Intelligence Department officials Mrs. Dayeh Sahrifeh said, “My sons have been unjustly sentenced to unfair sentences. A great injustice has been done to them. If the regime does not answer their demand, their father and I will set ourselves ablaze in front of the Department of Intelligence of Sanandaj.”
political prisoners Ramin and Afshin Hossein Panahi continue their hunger strike, protesting their death and life in prison sentences, respectively. The two have already been transferred to solitary confinement in Sanandaj Central Prison, west of Iran.
Ramin Hossein Panahi, a 22-year-old member of the Komala opposition group, was arrested on 23 June 2017 after he took part in clashes with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in the neighbourhood of Shalman, in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, northwest Iran.
He was shot and sustained three bullet wounds. He was then transferred to the Sanandaj Intelligence Agency Detention Center. He has been charged with “enmity against God.”
Earlier this year Amnesty International in it’s statement on June 30, considered the arrest of Ramin Hossein Panahi and four of his family members as “enforced disappearances,” calling on the Iranian authorities to immediately reveal their fate and whereabouts.
The organization further urged the Iranian authorities to release Hossein Panahi’s family members if they have been detained solely because of their family connection with Ramin Hossein Panahi.
“The authorities must ensure that Ramin Hossein Panahi is promptly brought before a judge, as well as provided with immediate access to healthcare, protected from torture and other illtreatment, given access to an independent lawyer of his choosing, and granted a fair trial without resort to the death penalty,” the statement reads in part.
