The International Day against the Death Penalty

On the occasion of the World and Europe Day against the Death Penalty, Iran human rights monitor (IranHRM) urgently call upon the international community to take decisive action to halt the ongoing executions in Iran.

Executions in iran since January 2023

Therefore, on October 10, 2023, the number of executions by the Iranian regime surpassed 550. 550 individuals have been deprived of their right to life.

Iran: Top executioner of women in the world

The number of executed women stands at 16, and Iran remains the leading country in the execution of women worldwide. In the previous year, Iran claimed the title of the largest executioner of women in the world by executing at least 15 women in 2022. According to Amnesty International’s report in 2022, a total of 24 women were executed worldwide, with 15 of them being in Iran.

13 political prisoners were executed in 2023

Thirteen political prisoners were executed in 2023, almost double the number executed in 2022, in less than a year. More than half were protesters arrested in the 2022 nationwide uprising.

The number of political prisoners executed in 2022 was seven. The Iranian regime was forced to give long-term imprisonments instead of executions under pressure of domestic and international public opinion.

The number of political prisoners executed in 2022 was seven. The Iranian regime was forced to give long-term imprisonments instead of executions under pressure of domestic and international public opinion.

The Iran Human Rights Monitor (IranHRM) calls upon the United Nations, the European Union, and their member countries not to remain silent in the face of these executions. It condemns these government-sanctioned massacres and demands immediate and practical action to stop this bloodshed.

Silence in the face of these crimes by the Iranian regime is a violation of the most fundamental human rights and democratic standards.
