At Least 48 Prisoners Executed in Iran Since Mid-April 2025

Since mid-April 2025, at least 48 prisoners have been executed across various prisons in Iran. On average, more than four prisoners have been executed each day, amounting to approximately one execution every six hours.

Execution of Four Prisoners at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj

In the early hours of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, four prisoners were executed at Qezel-Hesar Prison in Karaj. Two of those executed were identified as Asghar Vatanparast, from Shiraz, and Hamid Fazeli, from Tehran. Vatanparast had been arrested in 2018 on drug-related charges, while Fazeli had been detained four years ago on charges of murder. The identities of the two other prisoners have not been confirmed; however, reports indicate that one of them had been sentenced for murder. Previously, the execution of Mohsen Langar-Neshin had also been reported by the Iran Human Rights Society.

Execution of Two Prisoners at Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz

On the morning of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, two more prisoners were executed at Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz. One of them was identified as Mohammad Nabi Zirkari, a 53-year-old father of seven. He had been arrested eight years ago on drug-related charges. The identity of the second prisoner is still under investigation.

Execution of Six Prisoners at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad

In the early hours of Wednesday, six prisoners were executed at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. The individuals were identified as Abdolghaffar Barahui (Lajei), Parviz Dastkaleh (Nooraddin Lajei), Abdolsamad Gorgij (Rigi), Mehdi Azizi, Javid Galehbacheh, and one unnamed prisoner. Most of the cases were related to drug offenses. Abdolghaffar Barahui and Parviz Dastkaleh, who were brothers, had been tried jointly.

Execution of a Prisoner at Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz

A young prisoner named Abolfazl Kianpour, from Masjed Soleyman, was executed at Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz on Monday, April 28. He had been arrested three years ago on charges of murder.

Execution of Six Prisoners at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan

On the morning of Monday, April 28, six additional prisoners were executed at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. The executed individuals were identified as Marjan Sabzi, Mohammad Tatouzehi, Reza Khaledi, Naser Feyzi, Rouhollah Palangi, and Abdolrashid Barahui. Marjan Sabzi, the only woman among them, was from Khorramabad in Lorestan Province and had been convicted on drug-related charges. Three of those executed were from the Baloch ethnic group, and reports indicate that their final visit with family members lasted only ten minutes before the executions were carried out.
