In recent days, a wave of concern and warnings has emerged regarding the fate of three Arab political prisoners in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz. These concerns intensified after the prisoners were suddenly and without prior notice transferred to solitary confinement—an action which, based on past experience, is usually a sign that their execution may be imminent.
Prisoners at Risk of Execution
The three Arab political prisoners who have been moved to solitary confinement are:
Ali Mojadam, born in 1983 and a resident of Kut-e Seyyed Saleh, Ahvaz; married with three children.
Moein Khenfari, born in 1993 from Kut-e Seyyed Saleh, Ahvaz.
Mohammadreza Moghadam, born in 1992 and from Shadegan (Falahieh).
These three had previously been sentenced to death by Branch 4 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court on charges of “collaboration with opposition groups,” “acting against national security,” and “moharebeh” (enmity against God). According to informed sources, their death sentences were recently upheld by the Supreme Court, significantly increasing the likelihood of the sentences being carried out.
A Case Marked by Forced Confessions and Torture
Ali Mojadam was arrested in February 2019, Moein Khenfari in 2019, and Mohammadreza Moghadam also in February 2019. According to the prisoners’ families and lawyers, all three were subjected to severe physical and psychological torture during their detention in the Intelligence Department of Ahvaz to force them to confess to the charges. These confessions were later broadcast on national television.
The case includes serious accusations such as “participation in armed operations against security forces,” “killing two police officers, one Basij member, and one soldier in Bandar Khomeini,” and “membership in the group Harakat al-Nidhal.” The six main defendants in this case, including these three men and three others, were sentenced to death by the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court in February 2023. Their last court session was held online in Shiban Prison, Ahvaz, in April 2024.
In recent days, the prisoners’ families have been completely deprived of any contact or official information about the situation of their loved ones. Prison authorities have even denied these prisoners the right to make phone calls—an action often taken shortly before executions are carried out.
The Situation of Ali Mojadam, Moein Khenfari, and Mohammadreza Moghadam
Ali Mojadam, the primary defendant in the case, was transferred to Shiban Prison in Ahvaz after two months of detention in the Intelligence Department. Together with five other defendants, he was sentenced to death. Moein Khenfari and Mohammadreza Moghadam also faced similar charges and endured extremely harsh interrogation conditions.
