The 82nd Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 49 Prisons Across the Country

The 82nd week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in 49 prisons across the country. This week, prisoners issued a statement condemning the widespread wave of executions and emphasized its catastrophic dimensions. The statement reads:

“The statistics on executions reflect a human catastrophe: between July 23 and August 18, 2025, alone, 136 individuals have been executed, and since the beginning of 1404 (March 21, 2025), 627 people have been hanged.”

The prisoners further highlighted the Supreme Court’s confirmation of the death sentence of Sharifeh Mohammadi and the continued lack of information regarding several political prisoners sentenced to death. They underscored the importance of solidarity within society and support for the families seeking justice.

The full text of the statement for the 82nd week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is as follows:

The 82nd Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 49 Prisons Across the Country

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, in its 82nd week, once again brings the voices of protest from prisoners and their families to society. The ongoing silence and lack of information regarding five political prisoners sentenced to death and members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign—Vahid Bani Amerian, Pouya Ghobadi, Babak Alipour, Mohammad Taghavi, and Akbar (Shahrokh) Daneshvarkar—as well as one prisoner convicted on security charges and sentenced to death, Babak Shahbazi, is a clear indication of gross human rights violations and the intensifying pressures on prisoners’ lives.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court’s confirmation of the death sentence of political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi once again exposes the dimensions of injustice and cruelty within the judiciary of this execution-driven regime—an authoritarian government that has completely lost its legitimacy in society.

The statistics on executions reveal a human tragedy: between July 23 and August 18, 2025, alone, 136 individuals have been executed, and since the beginning of (the Iranian year of) 1404, 627 people have been hanged. These figures are not merely numbers; they represent lives, families, and communities plunged into grief and suffering.

Members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign strongly condemn this wave of executions and the mounting pressures on prisoners. They express deep appreciation for the courage and perseverance of the families seeking justice, who have gathered in front of prisons and other locations to echo the voices of prisoners. They call on all compatriots not to abandon the families of prisoners, especially those sentenced to death, in these difficult times.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign urges all people to use every available means and platform to voice their protest against these unjust sentences and the policy of executions in the country. It calls on the public to demonstrate their human solidarity against this systemic violence through all possible forms, including gatherings and accompanying the families of those sentenced to death.
