In the past week, at least five prisoners were executed in the prisons of Isfahan, Gorgan, Nishapur, and Dezful. According to reports, the number of executions in the past four weeks has reached at least 169 people; this means that on average, more than five prisoners per day—and one prisoner every five hours—lost their lives due to execution.
Details of the Executions
Nishapur: At dawn on Monday, August 25, 2025, Asad Shabani, 28, was executed after five years in prison on charges of murder.
Gorgan: At dawn on Saturday, August 23, 2025, Tahir Firoozi, 31, was executed after five years in detention on charges of murder.
Dezful: On the morning of Thursday, August 21, 2025, Abdolamir Hasangal, who had been arrested five years earlier on charges of murder, was executed.
Isfahan (Dastgerd Prison): On the same day (August 21, 2025), Shamsollah Kheiri, 27, from Qaemshahr, and Abdel Sabzi, 34, from Khorramabad, were executed on drug-related charges.
On the same day, the execution of another prisoner named Mehdi Kazemi in Isfahan Prison was also reported by human rights sources.
Imminent Risk for Other Prisoners
Alongside this wave of executions, reports indicate that at least seven prisoners in Ghezel Hesar and Zahedan prisons have been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions.
In Ghezel Hesar Prison, six prisoners charged with drug-related offenses were transferred to solitary confinement.
In Zahedan Prison, Masoud Qanbarzehi, 38, who has been detained since 2015 on charges of murder, was transferred to solitary confinement for execution.
