Execution of 8 Prisoners in Five Prisons Across Iran

August 28, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

In recent days, at least eight prisoners were executed in the prisons of Qezel Hesar (Karaj), Isfahan, Bandar Abbas, Zahedan, and Birjand. This brings the number of executions over the past five weeks to 185.

Details of the Executions

Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj – August 27, 2025
Four prisoners were hanged:

Hassanali Yousefi, from Nourabad

Kazem Fatemi, convicted on drug-related charges

Hossein Biabani, from Kangavar, convicted on drug-related charges

Ahmadali Mehri, from Tazehabad Kuhdasht, convicted on drug-related charges

Isfahan Prison – August 27, 2025

Mohammadali Lashari, 38, originally from Zahedan and residing in Bandar Abbas, married with three children. He had been arrested seven years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Bandar Abbas Prison – August 26, 2025

Nawab Popalzai, 28, Afghan national from Farah Province, arrested two years ago on drug-related charges. His execution took place without prior notice to his family and without a final visit.

Zahedan Prison – August 26, 2025

Ahmad Dehani, 30, son of Mohammad Karim, from and residing in Mehestan, arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder.

Birjand Prison – August 26, 2025

Behzad Navaei, convicted on drug-related charges.

The recent executions once again underscore serious concerns about the alarming rise in the issuance and implementation of death sentences in Iran. Many of these rulings are handed down following judicial processes that fall short of fair trial standards. In some cases, even the families of the prisoners are not informed of the execution date.
