Execution of 9 Prisoners in One Day in Different Prisons in Iran

September 1, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, at least nine prisoners were executed in the prisons of Rasht, Qezel Hesar, Shiraz, Sanandaj, Zahedan, Hamedan, and Arak. This brings the total number of executions in the past 10 days to 38 people.

Names and Details of Those Executed:

  • Ali Mirza Qolikhan, 43 years old, from Lahijan – executed in Lakan Prison of Rasht; arrested in connection with a drug-related case.
  • Soleiman Koushki, from Kuhdasht – executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj; drug-related case.
  • Armin Reyhani and Esmail Delavari Shouli, both 25 years old, from Shiraz – executed in Adelabad Prison of Shiraz; accused of murder.
  • Hamed Barahouei, 25 years old, from Zahedan, along with another prisoner whose identity has not yet been confirmed – executed in Zahedan Prison; accused of murder.
  • Ali Yavari – executed in Hamedan Prison; drug-related case.
  • Jassem Nowrouzi – executed in Arak Prison; drug-related case.
  • Akbar Abbaspour, from Maragheh, married and father of one child, resident of Baneh – executed in Sanandaj Prison; arrested seven years ago on a murder charge.

Alarming Rise in Executions

The execution of these nine prisoners in a single day once again underscores the deeply troubling scope of Iran’s use of the death penalty. Many of these sentences are handed down following opaque judicial processes that fall short of international fair trial standards.

The international community and human rights organizations must urgently respond to the escalating wave of executions in Iran and call on the authorities of the Islamic Republic to put an end to this practice.
