Alarming Rise in Executions
The execution of these nine prisoners in a single day once again underscores the deeply troubling scope of Iran’s use of the death penalty. Many of these sentences are handed down following opaque judicial processes that fall short of international fair trial standards.
The international community and human rights organizations must urgently respond to the escalating wave of executions in Iran and call on the authorities of the Islamic Republic to put an end to this practice.
