On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, on the eve of the World Day Against the Death Penalty, the 89th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is being held in 52 prisons across the country.
In this week’s statement, the prisoners, referring to the recent wave of executions—including the execution of six Arab political prisoners and one Kurdish political prisoner on October 4, 2025—emphasized that:
“Execution in Iran is not merely a punishment but a tool of intimidation and terror in a society that is on the verge of explosion.”
The statement also honors World Teachers’ Day and commemorates Samad Behrangi and Farzad Kamangar, stressing that the abolition of the death penalty is a fundamental step toward justice and freedom.

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in its 89th Week, across 52 Prisons, on the Eve of the World Day Against the Death Penalty
We begin the 89th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign on the eve of the World Day Against the Death Penalty, at a time when the international community strives to abolish or at least significantly reduce the use of capital punishment. Yet, in Iran, not only has the death penalty not been abolished or reduced, but the ruling regime breaks new records of brutality and executions every single day.
On Saturday, October 4, 2025, six Arab political prisoners—Ali Majdam, Mohammadreza Moghadam, Mo’in Khanfari, Habib Deris, Adnan Ghobeishavi, and Seyed Salem Mousavi-as well as one Kurdish political prisoner, Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, were executed. On the same day, the death sentence of political prisoner Mohammad-Javad Vafaei-Sani was confirmed for the third time by the Supreme Court.
The number of executions over the past year-from October 1, 2024, to today-has reached 1,695 people, and since the beginning of the year 1404 (March 21, 2025), 957 individuals have been executed within just six and a half months. We must acknowledge that many executions go unreported, and the actual figures are likely much higher. These numbers represent only a fraction of the regime’s execution-driven crimes.

According to a recent report by Amnesty International, as of December 2024, 113 countries around the world have completely abolished the death penalty from their laws, and in total, 145 countries have either legally or practically stopped carrying out executions. Yet, in Iran, the shadow of death grows darker every day.
It is clear to all that execution in Iran is not merely a punishment but a tool for intimidation and terror in a society in a volatile and explosive state. For this regime, every protest and every protester must be silenced through execution and imprisonment. That is why today, “No to Execution” has become one of the key slogans of protesters across all sectors-teachers, retirees, workers, and students alike.
In conclusion, we extend our congratulations to all dear teachers on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day and honor the memory of Samad Behrangi and Farzad Kamangar, teachers who taught the lessons of freedom and equality in Iran’s history and ultimately sacrificed their lives for those ideals.
In the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, we reaffirm that the death penalty neither brings justice nor serves as a deterrent; it only institutionalizes violence. We call upon all conscientious individuals, civil activists, writers, artists, teachers, retirees, and workers to raise their voices louder against executions so that this regime’s most powerful weapon of repression and suffocation may finally be taken away. Only then can the path toward justice and freedom be truly opened.
