In the early hours of Wednesday morning 11 inmates were hanged in Rjaishahr Prison, west of Tehran. They were transferred to solitary confinement in the past recent days. All have reportedly been condemned to death for allegedly “murder” or a non-violent drug offense.
A funeral was held for 31-year-old Mohsen Babaei, by his cellmates who wore black protesting the mass execution.
It is worth noting that Mohsen Babaei, a graduated in accountancy was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. It is said an argument erupted between Babaei and his 63-year-old colleague that ended with the man, who fell to the ground and was knocked to unconscious. He eventually died of cerebral hemorrhage.
After Iran’s oldest high-rise in downtown Tehran collapsed, Babaei issued a letter offering condolences to the family of the victims.
Eight of those executed were identified as below, while there is no information about the identities of the other three.
Sirous Moradi, hall 7, ward 3
Vahid Silani, ward 4
Siamak Shafiei, ward 6
