Iran: City Council female members banned from stadium opening
The authorities of the Astan Quds Razavi charity did not invite the two female members of the Mashhad City Council to attend the opening ceremony of Imam Reza Stadium.
The Body Building Association of the Astan Quds Razavi invited the 13 members of the City Council to watch the opening game between Mashhad and Karbala, but crossed out the names of the two female members of the Mashhad City Council. (ISNA state-run News Agency – Sep. 16, 2017)
In Iran, the presence of women in stadiums, where men’s competitions are held, is prohibited.
