Farzaneh Jalali, a civil and women’s rights activist, has been held in Kermanshah Intelligence Ministry detention, west of Iran, since February 23rd for “measures threatening national security.” The mullahs’ judiciary has refused to accept the lawyer she has chosen to represent her.She suffers from gastrointestinal disease and a lumbar disc, placing her in serious conditions. Holding in solitary confinement and being denied medicine has severely deteriorated her conditions.
Jalali, an anthropology graduate, was expelled from Tehran University for her activities in support of women and children’s rights. She was very gifted and ranked 6th in Iran in the master’s degree entrance exam in 2011.
