The head of the Majlis Judicial Commission said that Majlis is in no way looking to abolish the death penalty for narcotics traffickers and is in reality looking to organize and manage the death punishment.
“In this plan we have not said that if someone is not hanged, they should be released; the punishment for such a person is 30 years of prison”, Allahyar Malekshahi said. Majlis passed the Plan to Reduce the Death Penalty for Narcotics Related Crimes in yesterday’s session. (Mehr state-run News Agency – Jul. 17, 2017)
