Political prisoner talks about death sentence

Political prisoner Zaniyar Moradi wrote in a letter from Rajaie Shahr prison in Karaj about his condition:

“For nearly 9 years I am under an unfair and inhuman sentence. I have been condemned to a crime that I haven’t committed. So, I can say and name this as being held as a hostage. Hostage for being born in a political family and my father’s activities. For nine years I have been living and cannot understand this sentence. The death sentence that has caused all of these years to feel the last nights of the caretakers with all my heart. A feeling with a different meaning. The meaning of love and sadness of not seeing the loved ones on the last days of your life for the resistance that you have done. In these years many men and women have sacrificed their lives by being executed for no reasons. This inevitable rush to freedom has become stronger and more determined day by day. All of this is being done for one thing, freedom. We all know that freedom is not something given and is something that we have to get.”

Zaniyar Moradi was arrested on August 2, 2009 by the security forces in Marivan, Kurdistan province. He was arrested and held for 9 months in the Sanandaj Information Detention Center for compulsory confessions under intense physical and psychological tortures.

He was trialed on December 22, 2010 in Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, chaired by Salavati, and was sentenced to death on charges of Moharebeh (person against God) through membership in an opposition group and assassinating the son of Marivan’s Imam Friday.
