Davood Mirghafari, head of the General and Revolutionary Courts of Karaj, stated at a press conference on Sunday, June 24, that in connection with the nationwide protests of January 2018, a total of 40 cases were filed, in which 21 of them have been investigated by the Revolutionary Court of Karaj. He added that among those charged with disrupting public order, three were acquitted, three were sentenced to a cash fine, three have received extra imprisonment, one was put on trial, and an absentee decision has been issued for three people.
He also said that for those who have caused trouble and disturbance, will be receiving heavy punishments, including imprisonment and lashes. (The state-run ISNA news agency- June 24, 2018)
The national protests of January 2018, began in Mashhad on December 28 and was expanded to at least 72 small, and large cities in Iran. At least 27 people were killed in the protests. The total number of detainees in the recent national protests was 4,972, in which 4,534 of them were released. In addition, 55 people were also detained in the Ministry of Intelligence.
