Iranian Political Prisoners Face Intensifying Pressure

It would seem that the Iranian regime is stepping up pressure against political prisoners by using non-political violent inmates to attack them.

There have been reports on some rights activists and political prisoners who were brutalized in prison during the past few days.

Particularly, families of political prisoners are increasingly concerned about the safety of their loved ones after the recent death of a political prisoner.

Detained internet activist Alireza Shir Mohammad Ali was stabbed to death by two prisoners on June 10 at Fashafuyeh Prison near Tehran.

The 21 year old political prisoner was sentenced to eight years of prison on charges of “blasphemy”, “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic”, “insulting the leader” and “spreading propaganda” against the regime.

Inhumane treatment of prisoners and dastardly killing of a political prisoner in jail, shows just part of what inmates endure in the Iran’s jails, such as the Fashafouyeh Penitentiary and other notorious prisons.

It also stipulates that the UN should send a delegation to inspect the prisons and inquire about the plight of those incarcerated in torture chambers, especially women detainees.

Some prisoners attacked by violent inmates:

Yasaman Ariani:

A female civil rights Yasamin Ariani was attacked by a prisoner detained for a violent crime on Sunday and was injured in the shoulder blade.
The inmate initially threatened and verbally abused Yasamin Ariani and other political prisoners in Qarchak (Shahre-rey Prison) south east of Tehran and struck her a number of times in her shoulders.
According to reports, the inmate has in the past attacked and verbally abused other political prisoners in this prison, even going as far as threatening them with a sharp object. According to sources in the prison, she is supported by Shah Ali, the head of the section.

Neda Naji and Atefeh Rangriz:

On Saturday, July 6, 2019, Neda Naji was beaten by prison guards in the span of 24 hours in the Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
According to a non-political prisoner, Neda Naji was transferred to the prison medical clinic afterwards and due to the strike to her head by prison agents, she had blurry vision for several hours.
Neda Naji along with 14 other female labor activists were arrested during the Labor Day protest on May 1 in Tehran in front of the mullahs’ parliament. Neda was transferred from Evin Prison’s Ward 209 to Qarchak Prison in Varamin on June 15, 2019. She said that the lives of her and Atefeh Rangriz, another female labor activist arrested during the Labor Day demonstration, are in danger and nobody hears their voices.

Ameneh Zaheri Sari:

Ameneh Zaheri Sari, a 20 year old female political prisoner detained in a southwestern Iran prison, was severely beaten and mistreated by prison guards. Ms. Zaheri Sari, detained for the past seven months in the Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, sustained severe injuries to the elbow.
She has been suffering from acute swelling of various parts of her body. The physician of the prison’s dispensary has not been able to diagnose the reason for the acute swelling and illness of Ameneh Zahersari and she must be dispatched to hospital as soon as possible for diagnosis and treatment but the legal and security officials of the Sepidar Prison have prevented to her to hospital.

Amirhossein Mohammadifar and Sanaz Allahyari:

In Evin Prison, hunger striking political prisoner Amir Hossein Mohammadi Fard was attacked and beaten by non-political prisoners after 12 days of hunger strike while suffering from severe weakness. After being beaten, he was sent to another prison section as punishment.

On July 2, Mohammadi Fard wrote a letter to the head of the 28th Branch of the Tehran Revolutionary Court asking that his wife, political prisoner Sanaz Allahyari’s health be seen to. He said that if he and his wife and other detainees, who had supported the Haft Tapeh Sugarcane factory workers’ strike, were not released in two days, he would go on a hunger strike. Two days later, he went on a hunger strike along with his wife.
