All residents of a neighborhood in southwest Iran contract coronavirus

All residents of a neighborhood in the city of Izeh have contracted the novel coronavirus because the city was not quarantined.

Some 400 people have been infected in Gonjeshgir neighborhood in Izeh, in southwestern Khuzestan Province, because they are deprived of the most basic medical and hygienic resources due to the callous policies of the clerical regime and the officials’ failure to quarantine the cities.

The wave of infections allegedly started when a family from Yazd who carried the virus entered the city. The COVID-19 disease gradually spread to all residents of Gonjeshgir neighborhood.

Almost half of the residents of Gonjeshgir are in critical conditions and have been transferred to hospitals in Ahvaz. Other patients have been ordered to be isolated at home.

The Department of Intelligence in Izeh has forced hospital nurses to pledge in writing that they would remain silent and would not disseminate any news of the outbreak in their city, otherwise they would be fired.

City officials have also pressured the residents to maintain silence about their deceased relatives and bury them secretly.

One of the victims of COVID-19 in Gonjeshgir neighborhood of Izeh was called Firouz Shahvali.

More than 23,900 people have died of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in 261 cities across all of Iran’s 31 provinces.

The death toll in various provinces include: 2,150 in Khorasan Razavi, 1,870 in Isfahan, 1,800 in Mazandaran, 1,025 in Khuzestan, 900 in Golestan, 950 in Alborz, 710 in Western Azerbaijan, 550 in Eastern Azerbaijan, 625 in Hamedan, 520 in Ardebil, 405 in Zanjan, 380 in Yazd, 325 in Markazi, 185 in Ilam, 160 in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, 130 in Bushehr, and 60 in Southern Khorasan. This is in addition to cases registered in other provinces.

The Iranian regime has refused to implement quarantines in Iran despite the massive death toll.

While the pandemic has not been controlled, the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani intend to send people back to work on April 11.

The regime’s president Hassan Rouhani said five days ago that “low-risk” economic activities would resume in all provinces except the capital from April 11.

Today, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health said that the number of COVID-19 infections in six Iranian provinces has “relatively increased” since people started leaving their homes.

These provinces include Tehran, the southwestern province of Fars, the northwestern province of Western Azarbaijan, Kermanshah in the west, Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran and the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi.

According to the Babol Medical Sciences University, since the regime announced the first virus cases in the city on February 19, 15,000 patients suspected of being COVID-19 positive have gone to hospitals with severe breathing difficulties.
