A court of appeals has upheld a jail sentence for a man for posting pictures of political prisoners executed in the 1988 massacre in Iran.
Hamed Mortazavi, a man from Behbahan, southwest Iran was sentenced to four years of prison for “spreading propaganda against the state”, “insulting the founder & leader” of the regime and “membership in a group with more than two members with the intention of disrupting security”.
He was also sentenced to a two year ban on leaving Iran and has six months to read a book by a regime-affiliated mullah and be tested about the contents of the book.
One of his “crimes” was posting pictures of political prisoners executed in the 1988 massacre in Iran.
The 32-year-old would have to serve two years and seven months behind bars according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, which allows defendants to serve only the longest sentence in cases involving multiple convictions.
