Stop executions in Iran: 120 executed in November 2023

December 4, 2023
FacebookTwitterEmail

Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM) has obtained the final statistics on executions in the month of November based on extensive research conducted on this matter.

The number of executions in November 2023 has shown a significant increase compared to previous months. In October 2023, the number of executions had reached 86 individuals, while in November, this number rose to 120.

In November, the Iranian judiciary executed seven political prisoners. Among those executed were individuals who had participated in the protests of November 2019. These executions were carried out after four years of silence. The three political prisoners executed from the 2019 protests were Kamran Rezaei, Hani Shahbazi, and Gholam Rasoul Heydari.

Another victim of political executions in November was a political prisoner from the 1980s named Ali Saberi Motlaq, also known as “Gheda Ali Saber Motlaq.” He was hanged based on allegations against him 40 years ago. The other victim of political executions was Milad Zohrevand, one of the protesters of the nationwide protests in 2022.

In November, three individuals were executed publicly, and a prisoner under the age of 18 named Hamidreza Azari was executed in Sabzevar Prison. Additionally, three female prisoners were also executed in November. The number of executions in Iran has exceeded 700 since the beginning of this year, reaching a total of 743 executions.

Iran Human Rights Monitor (IranHRM) calls upon the international community and all human rights organizations to condemn and break the silence in the face of these brutal executions in Iran and undertake urgent action to bring them to a halt.
